Not a euphemism. Not in the least. The Fall Out Boy bassist shared a few awards show memories (shout out Wavves and Kanye) ahead of the BBMAs. Photo by Brigitte Sire.

Well, you’ll have to track down the issue to read both of my contributions to Los Angeles Mag’s booze-soaked new issue, but it’s worth it to be able to — ahem — tap into the liquid knowledge of so many professional drunks journalists. You can peep my Best Beer Shops in the greater L.A. area online. The one that’s only in print: DIY must-makes for home barkeepers, featuring expert advice from Miracle Mile Bitters Co., Pickled by Hattie, and Bäco Mercat chef Josef Centeno.

That dude that sings in a grizzled old voice about “Budapest” is actually a baby-faced youth only just old enough to drink in America. Good thing he’s from England. Photo by Amanda Friedman.
Never enough Coachella. Here are a few pieces I did for StubHub. They’re made for their music news app (peep it here), hence the minimal site. FKA twigs live photo by Wilson Lee for SPIN.

Coachella is right around the corner and good grub awaits. I talked to Short Order chef Christian Page and Sweet Clementine’s pops boss Layne Eiler about the relatively fresh phenomenon of fine dining and epicurean snacks coming to a music festival near you. If you’re actually going to Coachella (I am), look for the next hot Buzz Bite while some band plays in the background. :/
I banked a bunch of live reviews for Diffuser down in Austin for SXSW, but I also had a few chats. Interviewed Avid Dancer’s Jacob Summers about the marines, drumming, and Christian rock. Spoke to the men of Mew about their long hiatus and new LP. And talked to Foo Fighters bassist Nate Mendel about his new band Lieutenant, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Dave Grohl.
Every few weeks, I visit NPR member station KPCC to talk about new music on Take Two. This time I covered fresh folksy releases from Sufjan Stevens (Carrie & Lowell), and Laura Marling (Short Movie). Shout out Steve Hochman. Shout out stalkers. Listen in here:
My food journalism quest takes me to Cerritos in search of the Doritos chilaquiles, mole tots, and MexiCoke-glazed pork belly of Tacos y Amor. I profiled chef Tommy Ortega and his suburban outpost for Crave, and kickstarted my food-modeling career in the process. Eat this.
We’re back with “Tuesday Reviewsday” for KPCC’s Take Two. My usual crit-friend Shirley Halperin joins and my picks are damn solid: Will Butler’s Policy, and Matthew E. White’s Fresh Blood. The former is a member of Arcade Fire. The latter named his album after boners. True story.

As part of their “Double Threats” cover story, Billboard had me chat with Jack Black. It’s only a shame they couldn’t run the whole transcript. I mean, he told me how to cure cancer, end war, and beat all video games by stroking a guitar, but I guess that doesn’t transfer to the page.
