Back in the saddle! In this week’s installment of “Tuesday Reviewsday” (peep the podcast on iTunes or at NPR), I chitchat about Rihanna’s Anti, share my favorite cuts from St. Lucia’s Matter, and super duper gush over the arrival of Nevermen—that’s the supergroup comprising freak king Mike Patton, werewolf/singer Tunde Adebimpe, and the night-terror-having cosmology-creating avant-rap poet laureate Doseone. Geeked. Listen below or via one of the links above.

All Things Considered Covers ‘The Scenesters’ L.A. Event, Shares a Song from Lord Huron

[Note: this is kind of a cheat, as I’m not actually interviewed by the estimable Alex Cohen for this one.]

Great news. KPCC’s Alex Cohen interviewed The Scenesters writer-director-star Todd Berger about his film and the week-long music + film series Funny Ha Ha is presenting, kicking off at the Downtown Independent tonight with performances by Sister Mantos and a funkily inclined guest from the movie’s sound track.

Also awesome: The on-air interview is streaming online, with Cohen’s writeup about the movie AND a MP3 from Lord Huron, a L.A. up-and-comer playing our event along with the Franks on Thursday.

All Things Considered: BATHS Rising

Baths, on grass. (Hanna Dryland Shapiro)

It’s Baths day here at Funny Ha Ha, but can you blame us? Will Wiesenfeld’s music is as fascinating as it is infectious, and like L.A.’s current favorite son, the kid hails from the Valley. Chatsworth, to be exact, just a five-minute drive from that other ‘burb creative hotbed, Winnetka. Kudos to the beat scene for giving the SFV something to be proud of. Well, other than the seedier side of the So Cal film industry. But I digress.

Earlier in the week, KPCC’s Alex Cohen called me into the studio to talk about Baths for All Things Considered. Get hip to it already.

All Things Considered: Best L.A. Music with Foreign Born, Nosaj Thing and Nite Jewel

Care to hear  the best songs from the L.A. underground in 2009? Click on over to KPCC, where I visited last week in order to talk to All Things Considered host Alex Cohen about three of my favorites. Discussed: Foreign Born’s “Vacationing People,” Nosaj Thing’s “Coat Of Arms,” and Nite Jewel’s “Artificial Intellience,” as well as the scenes/movements each artist represents. Listen to the audio by clicking the little play button at the top of the article, and feel free to download each song via the side panel.

Foreign Born take a victory lap.
