It’s true. Four more primes slabs of virgin wax from L.A.’s extremely fertile independent music scene. Among this week’s crop are my favorite release of the year, the Dublab super-project Secondhand Sureshots, some rabid avant blues courtesy of Oxbow (Hydra Head’s return to the column!), another dreamy psych offering from the kids at Not Not Fun (Topaz Rags), and some post-rock tastiness from Red Sparowes (on Sargent House).

Last night, emo godheads Dashboard Confessional and pop-punk has-beens New Found Glory kicked of a national acoustic tour here in L.A., fittingly at this city’s most famous home of strum, the Troubadour. Read about the surprising results here (via Spin).

I recently had the esteemed honor of attending the homecoming show for Dangerbird co-founder Jeff Castelaz, who’d just completed his cross-country cycling expedition in the name of his charitable non-profit, The Pablove Foundation. A pretty impressive array of artists showed up to perform mini sets, which you can read about here, via Spin. Peep the flyer.
