Over the weekend something quite unexpected happened. The Bird and the Bee played a sold-out show at El Rey in honor of their new Hall and Oates tribute album, and who joined them onstage but the legendary ______ himself! Go to Spin to fill in the blank, and check out a few snaps from photog Andrew Herrold.

Live in LA: Dios Throws Free Record Release Show

Dios fans have been doggedly devoted and consistently thwarted over the years. Despite the Southern California band’s immense talent and best efforts, it always just skirts broader fame, a fleeting thing that’s pushed further and further away by confusing name changes and label swaps. But Dios’ latest, WEAREDIOS, should give the band a chance at bigness, and if last night’s performance at the Troubadour was any indication, Dios is ready for the challenge. Read more here.

Live In LA: Yeasayer Plays Natural History Museum

On Friday night, the five-man, living, breathing musical mash-up that is Brooklyn band Yeasayer came to town, and instead of playing to an audience of fashion-forward hippiesters at, say, the Echoplex, the group played to a mixed crowd of massive taxidermied animals and fashion-forward hippiesters at the Natural History Museum. I braved the wild scene on behalf of Spin.
