Happy Birthday Joni: from Graham Nash and Friends

Was this as much an excuse for me to talk to Seal as it was to pay tribute to one of the greatest songwriters in history? To answer that question, I’ll simply say, “Kiss from a Rose” was hitting when I was a lovelorn high-schooler, and everyone already knows how amazing Joni is, right? Consider the folks who dropped all of their important things to say great things about her: Seal (did I mention that already, because I’m not sure I did), Graham Nash, Rufus Wainwright, and Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin. What they have in common, in addition to JM-fandom, is Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration set to take place November 6 and 7 at the Music Center. All will be paying musical tribute to Ms. Mitchell in honor of her 75th birthday. Damn, Joan, is it that late already?

In this case, Emil Amos of Holy Sons (plus Grails, Om, and Jandek) also speaks on his father’s role in facilitating a fling between Joni Mitchell and a diamond thief, about Carl Jung and Carl Sagan,  survivalism, and his former (?) addiction to LSD and other unnamed intoxicants.
