INCHES004 has landed over at LA Weekly‘s West Coast Sound. Installment number four picks off where last week left off, an unthemed collection of just-released (this week!) L.A.-relevant vinyl reviewed, photographed, and MP3’d, accompanied by a top ten vinyl sales chart from one of our neighborhood record shops. Ladies and gentlemen: INCHES003. By journalistic law, this column now qualifies as a trend. Installment number three is actually the first “regular” edition, an unthemed collection of just-released L.A.-relevant vinyl reviewed (with original photos and free MP3s, of course), accompanied by a top ten vinyl sales chart from one of our local record shops. This week, you’ll find a new Flying Lotus EP, some incredible throwback bossa nova by Triorganico, seven inches of Adam Payne jamitude, and a killer Dublab release compiling work from the best of this city’s beat music scene. Anticon + Dublab = fresh L.A. vinyl

My favorite record label, Anticon, and L.A.’s greatest event-promoting radio collective, Dublab, have teamed up to co-author a series of 12-inch vinyl releases called In The Loop. Dublab curates, while Anticon (taking over from Plug Research) handles the physical release. Read about the two entities’ upcoming collaborative debut, and download an MP3 off of it, here.

An exciting, young L.A. label has just officially released a sweet set of remixes from the likes of Nosaj Thing, Eliot Lipp, Mexicans With Guns, Meanest Man Contest, and others. The label is Friends Of Friends, and the original artists: Daedelus and Jogger. Read about it here (via LA Weekly), where you can download Nosaj’s remix of Jogger’s “Nice Tights,” learn about the label’s remix contest, and play with a rad mixing widget.

Night Vision: Flying Lotus @ Downtown Independent

Last night, Dublab threw Labrat Matinee VI at Main Street’s Downtown Independent, the new theater next door to The Smell. After dozens of artful music videos and shorts — ranging from the single-shot mini thriller that Ben Barnes made for WHY?‘s ” Sky For Shoeing Horses Under,” to Tim And Eric’s bizarro Absolut Vodka advert starring Zach Galifianakis — beat music auteur Flying Lotus performed. His set included sizable chunks from 2008’s fantastic Los Angeles LP, hard bop samples, rave send-ups  and at least one Squarepusher drum phrase. I captured a wee bit of it below.
