Odd Future Wolf Gang Kills ’em All in San Diego
Went down to San Diego to get weird with Odd Future. Mission accomplished. The adored/abhorred aggro-swag kingpins (plus one queenpin) whipped those surfers, skaters and servicemen into a salty, blood-speckled froth. It was epic and unhinged, probably dangerous to society overall, but it was fun, fun, fun.
TUESDAY: The Jesse Miller Talk Show with Eric André, Johnny Pemberton and VICE COOLER
I’m proud to announce a very special Jesse Miller Talk Show. First, it’s FREE (with phone RSVP). Second, it’s at the Comedy Central Stage at the Hudson. Third, and best of all, it’ll feature the musical stylings/thrustings of the one and only VICE COOLER, known for, among other things, his stunning fashion sense, his wonderfully fucked music videos, and boundary-pushing work in tuneage (Kit, Hawnay Troof, Peaches, XBXRX). Also, he might bring dancers. If that’s not enough to convince ya, read LAist’s glowing take on the show.
Vice Cooler as Hawnay Troof, in “Connection”
Andre Hyland as Jesse Miller, in “Pretty Lady Bike”

Girls Become Great w/ ‘Father, Son, Holy Ghost’
Not super happy with how this review turned out, but the fact that you can stream previews of the songs on the right-hand side of the thing makes clicking over there worth your time. Or, just go buy this album. It’s great.
Das Racist Get Wild in NYC with Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire; El-P Fans Get Lost on the Way There?
Was recently in NYC and had the pleasure of seeing Das Racist on their home turf. Better still, El-P was on hand, in the wings for most of the show, and then on stage for a good chunk. As a longtime Jukkie and unapologetic backpacker this was a momentous occasion. My first show at the Bowery in about six years, and out stepped a legend from my past. I expected the crowd to roar. I thought they’d chant his name. Or at least some kind of knowing cock of the head, a raised chin in his direction. But no. The audience was cold. Dressed as they were in tight pants and T-shirts for (perfectly fine) bands like Black Keys and Peter Bjorn and John, as opposed the the ubiquitous three-eyed Hiero signs and J5 button logos of my youth, they had no idea who the fuck they were looking at.
Well, get acquainted, bitches:

Givers Overcome Katrina, Make Happy Songs
These Louisiana kids wouldn’t have found each other if it wasn’t for Hurricane Katrina, and they might not have made it big without the help of their favorite band, Dirty Projectors. Read their happy story at SPIN. (Photo: Aaron Richter)
FRIDAY: The Jesse Miller Talk Show with Wallpaper
I’ve thrown my lot in with the inimitable eagle-eyed talent-scouting genius Jesse Miller (also known, when not in character, as the extraordinary comedic force Andre Hyland). “Miller” hosts a hilarious monthly talk show at The Improv in Hollywood featuring comics, actors and writers. Starting with this Friday’s gig, I’ll be booking a musical guest for each show, and we’re kicking things off with flashy dance destroyer Wallpaper., whose #STUPiDFACEDD EP is currently making the rounds. Here’s LAist’s take on The Jesse Miller Talk Show, and here’s what you’d be missing … if you were stupid(facedd) enough to miss it:
L.A. Rising: Rage Against the Machine, Lauryn Hill, Immortal Technique, Rise Against and, um, Muse
I’ll admit, I was skeptical. The last time I saw Rage Against the Machine, I was in high school. Seemed like the kinda thing best left to more innocent times, but I was wrong. RATM thrilled, and the other agit-prop curious artists they wrangled for their day-long fest at the L.A. Coliseum were solid . Erik Voake shot. SPIN.
