Live in L.A.: Ben Gibbard, Jay Farrar Perform Kerouac Songs (on Spin)

Happy Monday. Last week I previewed the odd-but-good combo of Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service) and Jay Farrar (Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo), who are doing a handful of dates together in support of their Jack Kerouac-inspired new album, One Fast Move Or I’m Gone. Well, this week, I reviewed their full-band performance at El Rey. For Spin. And you can read it here. Also, Andrew Herrold took some great photos.

The Scenesters Featured On The A.V. Club

Todd Berger, a good friend and the director/star of The Scenesters (which I supervised, musically speaking), was recently interviewed over at The A.V. Club. I actually had nothing to do with setting this up — the movie’s been generating considerable buzz on the festival circuit — but the shout-out in the opening paragraph doesn’t hurt none. Among the numerous bands featured in the film: The Franks, The Sonics, American Watercolor Movement, Tobacco, Thee More Shallows, Gavin Castleton, Wallpaper, Le Switch, The Cribs, Barr, Her Space Holiday, Fog and The Airborne Toxic Event.
